Star Wars Spin-Off’s: Han Solo Origin Story and Boba Fett Film

After Walt Disney announced yesterday that it did intend to make spin-off Star Wars films outside of the numbered movies, rumors and speculation about who, what, where, when, and how started beaming around the internet. EW is reporting today that they have confirmed with Disney that the two spin off films they’re actively working now are one about a young Han Solo, and one about Boba Fett. From EW:

The Han Solo story would take place in the time period between Revenge of the Sith and the first Star Wars (now known as A New Hope), so although it’s possible Harrison Ford could appear as a framing device, the movie would require a new actor for the lead — one presumably much younger than even the 35-year-old Ford when he appeared in the 1977 original.

The Boba Fett film would take place either between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Jedi, where the bounty hunter was last seen plunging unceremoniously into a sarlacc pit.

More stories could also be pitched. There really is not limit to making Star Wars as big as the Marvel Universe has become in the past few years on the screen – unless Lucas says otherwise. According to sources the deal he struck with Disney allows him to have ultimate veto power on anything still – which ultimately sucks. Still, we’re more hopeful than ever that this is the beginning of a new saga for Star Wars fans, one that celebrates the broad world created instead of rarifies it.
